Athletic Therapy is a regulated health profession focused on the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Basically, anything involving your muscles, joints, and movement. Athletic Therapists work with people of all ages and activity levels, not just competitive athletes. If you're dealing with pain, stiffness, an old injury that never healed properly, or just want to move better, athletic therapy can help.
Both professions treat musculoskeletal injuries, and there's definitely overlap! Athletic Therapists tend to take a very hands-on, movement-based approach with a strong focus on returning you to activity — whatever that looks like for you. Physiotherapists often work within a broader clinical scope. In practice, the biggest difference you'll notice is the approach: athletic therapy is highly individualized and focused on getting you moving and feeling strong again.
No referral is needed to book an appointment. Athletic Therapy is a direct-access profession, meaning you can come see me without going through your doctor first. However, if you're planning to submit to your extended health insurance, it's worth checking your plan details, coverage and requirements vary by provider.
Mobile sessions are designed to fit your life, not the other way around. I travel to clients across the East Selkirk area and rural Manitoba, bringing all the tools I need for a full therapeutic session. A typical visit includes a check-in on your progress, hands-on treatment (manual therapy, soft tissue techniques), and exercise or movement work. Sessions usually run 60–75 minutes. If you're not sure whether I travel to your area, just reach out!
Many extended health benefit plans cover Athletic Therapy, though coverage varies by provider and plan. I recommend checking with your insurer directly. For MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance) claims related to motor vehicle accidents, Athletic Therapy is an eligible service, reach out and I can walk you through the process.
Anyone dealing with pain, stiffness, injury recovery, or just wanting to move better. In-home AT is especially useful for people in rural communities who'd otherwise have to travel 45 minutes or more to see a specialist. If you're in the Selkirk or surrounding area, you're already in my service zone.
Your first visit is an initial assessment — I will take a thorough look at how you're moving, what's bothering you, and what your goals are. From there, I'll put together a personalized treatment plan. Most first visits run about 45 to 75 minutes.
Nope. I come prepared. A bit of clear floor space is all you need. I'll bring her my supplies and equipment for every visit.
